Conservation, Community & Education

Stewardship of the Riverfront

Fairlawn Riverfront is now zoned "Conservation" and is part of an ongoing effort to preserve, restore, and responsibly share a unique stretch of New River riverfront in the heart of the New River Valley.

Over time, large portions of the property have been cleared of trash and invasive plant species while native trees, shrubs, flowers, and habitat plantings continue to be added throughout the landscape.

Our goal is to create a peaceful outdoor setting that balances low-impact recreation, conservation, education, and meaningful gatherings in nature.

Ongoing Restoration Efforts

Current restoration work includes:

  • Native tree and shrub planting
  • Wildflower establishment
  • Wildlife habitat restoration
  • Invasive species removal
  • Riverbank stabilization
  • Illegal dumpsite removals

Many areas of the property are still young and evolving, and we appreciate guests who value the natural beauty and long-term vision of the space.

Educational & Community Use

Educational & Community Use

We believe outdoor spaces can play an important role in education, conservation awareness, wellness, and community connection.

Reduced rates may be available for:

  • Schools
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Conservation groups
  • Educational programming
  • Nature-based activities
  • Small community-oriented gatherings

Please contact us directly to discuss the nature and goals of your event or program.

A Different Kind of Gathering Space

We hope a visit to Fairlawn Riverfront reminds our guests how beautiful this world can be when we work hard to care for it. Our goal is to leave a strong enough impression that visitors return home seeing the natural spaces around them through a lens of conservation. We intentionally limit reservations, maintain quiet evening hours, and focus on smaller gatherings that fit naturally within the character of the property and surrounding landscape.

We hope guests leave feeling more connected to the river, the landscape, and the slower pace that makes this part of Virginia special and worth protecting. For those that catch the conservation bug,  we've provided links to some great resources below. Go be a Habitat Hero!!
